Running a restaurant makes you really think about the little details... and you have to get them right! This is something that we teach our Apprentices in The Restaurant at Tante Marie, and one of the most important details is how we present our menus. Visitors to The Restaurant will notice they resemble a school text book - a nod to our status as a school - but finding the right card has been a real challenge... until, that is, we discovered G. F. Smith.
In early 2015, a large Eurpoean manufacturer of paper and card went out of business, hitthing the European printing industry hard. While we were sourcing new card for our menu covers, John Haslam, the Managing Director of G. F. Smith, came in for a meal with his family. John noticed some samples of his company's card behind our bar. He introduced himself and it transpired that John lives locally, and so began our relationship with G. F. Smith.
G. F. Smith's heritage dates back to 1885 and put simply, they are all about paper! Looking at their website, there is one interesting fact that really says it all about G. F. Smith:
In 2014, they recognised the fact that 36 members of their team have given more than 20 years of service to the company. At Tante Marie, we are blessed to have a loyal and long-standing team and one day, we hope to be able to say the same thing about them! G. F. Smith is exactly the sort of business we like to support. We are grateful to John and his team for making such beautiful card, (and for supporting us), and we are proud to be able to champion them!
THe G. F. Smith website is really worth a visit - if nothing else, to learn a bit more about the history of the paper business! Click here to see more!
