OUR NOMINATED CHARITY:
At Tante Marie, we aim to support our local community and through our network of suppliers we do just that. We also recognise that we are well placed to do what we can to help make a difference to those who need it. We are proud to support Woking & Sam Beare Hospices - a wonderful local charity which provides care for the very people we aim to support.
Tante Marie recognises that there are a great many charities out there and we feel it is important that we do our bit. Every two years, we consider applications for a new charity to become our 'nominated charity'. Our next tender process will be carried out in September 2017.
SUPPLIERS:
With up to 80 full time students cooking in the Academy and a busy restaurant operation to think about, Tante Marie has developed a network of fabulous suppliers. Wherever possible, we aim to support local businesses and we feel that it is important to champion these wonderful people.
These days, ingredients can travel half way around the world in less than a day, so we have to work hard to make sure we really are supporting local businesses and producers. Anyone can write 'Locally Sourced' on a menu, but in reality it is not quite as simple as that. For example, Tante Marie is 50 miles from the sea, but our wonderful fishmonger, Ron Fowler & Son, is based just a few miles from the school and Ron sources his fish directly from a carefully selected group of fishermen who are known personally to him. Similarly, we don't grow coffee in Surrey, but Café Maison source our fairtrade coffee from small producers around the world, who roast it and send to us within 2 weeks.
All of the businesses below are small, local businesses, run by people who are passionate about their products and services. By using them, we are supporting businesses which employ local people and do our bit to help our own, local economy. We avoid using large national or multinational companies wherever possible...
